DESCRIPTION
The Part Time Beauty Therapy course includes the coveted CIDESCO Beauty Therapy diploma as well as ITEC Level 2 in Beauty Specialist Treatments, Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy and ITEC Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Skincare for students who already have already studied at level 3 (A level or equivalent).

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This qualification is for learners seeking to achieve the highest possible level of training in beauty. Students must be self motivate with a desire to succeed.
Created in response to changes in government legislation requiring young people to stay in full time education until the age of 18, the eighteen month option is a great way to study for 16-18 year olds though it appeals to applicants of any age who prefer to study part time.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Minimum age of entry is 16. There is no maximum age.
5 GCSEs at a grade 4 or higher. Two of these must be in English and Maths with sciences preferred (applications are accepted before GCSE results are obtained). Applicants coming straight from GCSE will not be automatically enrolled for the Level 4 in Advanced Skincare. This will be an optional addition once their ability to study at Level 3 is known.
Students who have previously studied at Level 3 (A-Level) will automatically be enrolled for the ITEC L4 Diploma in Advanced Skincare. Mature students can choose to enrol on the Level 4 qualification subject to submission of a personal statement and interview.

COURSE STRUCTURE
The content covered and exam structure is the same as for the fast track qualification but taught over 18 months, three days per week.
Success in the L2 & L3 ITEC qualifications must be attained in order to sit the CIDESCO examination. During the last part of the course, students will increase their theoretical knowledge and practical skills with additional advanced treatments as well as Elemis training whilst working towards their CIDESCO exams. For students not sitting the Level 4 qualification, there will be additional time to focus on the Level 3 assignments and CIDESCO project.
Part one
In the first part of the course (October - June) you will learn aesthetics treatments: Facials, Facial Electrical treatments, Microdermabrasion, Manicure, Pedicure, Waxing and Make-up & Eye Treatments. Exams are in May when you will gain your L2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Treatments and learn Facial Electrotherapy and Microdermabrasion making you a qualified Aesthetician.
Part two
During the second part (June - March) you will build on your A&P knowledge as you move into body therapy. You will learn Body Massage, Figure Analysis, Body Electrotherapy, Aromatherapy, Hot Stone Massage, Indian Head Massage and other additional subjects. You will gain your ITEC Diplomas in L3 Advanced Beauty Therapy and L4 Advanced Skincare (some students only) in part two with final ITEC exams in December.
The final term will develop and enhance your skills taking you to a higher standard to gain the CIDESCO Beauty Therapy diploma qualification in March. You will also cover Champneys and Elemis training, have a week's work experience at a Champneys Spa or City Spa and learn Lava Shells Massage and Wavestone.
After the exams, students are fully qualified and can go into employment. In order to receive their final CIDESCO diploma and badge, graduates are required to complete 600 hours of (paid) work. We are pleased to be able to offer guaranteed employment within the Champneys Group for all Graduates of this course.
DELIVERY METHOD
Teaching is a blend of salon based theory and practical delivery with a strong emphasis on working on clients in the college salon
ASSESSMENT
ITEC exams are modular and spread throughout the course as above A minimum of 60% for each exam is required for an overall pass.
CIDESCO Project with case histories and exam structure
Students must prepare case histories detailing a set number of treatments each on a set number of clients and complete the CIDESCO case histories booklet. They must also research and write a project on a subject relevant to the study of beauty therapy connected to their case histories. The project should consist of at least 2500 words but not more than 4000 words, all written in the student's own words.
The case histories and project are written in advance followed by:
1.5 hour theory exam consisting of 100 multiple choice questions.
3.5 hour practical aesthetics exam covering facial, including deep cleansing; eye treatments; facial electrical treatments; make-up; manicure or pedicure.
45 minutes practical waxing exam covering half leg warm wax; bikini or underarm wax with hot wax.
2 hour body exam consisting of body analysis – to include individual treatment plan; pre-treatment (cleansing, exfoliating, IR, electrical); electrical treatment x2; completion of treatment – (electrical, application of product e.g. wrap, mask); partial body massage (areas to be allocated).
45 minutes additional treatment. This may be related to the project or an advanced treatment taken from a list.
A minimum of 70% for each exam is required for an overall pass.

DELIVERY MODE
Part time, 3 days per week. For the 2021 intake the teaching days will be Monday - Wednesday.
HOURS
9.30am - 5.30pm OR 10am - 6pm depending on Covid restrictions at the time.
Late Wednesdays once a month and one Saturday per month are required during the course
2 hours per night home study is expected
